As the crowd gathered in Piazza Vittoria, a moment of symbolic unity unfolded: Michelangelo Pistoletto’s Sfera Go!2025was gently pushed off the stage, setting it in motion for its journey toward Nova Gorica. The large reflective sphere, a key emblem of the European Capital of Culture 2025, began rolling through the streets of Gorizia, passed hand to hand by representatives of local sports associations.
The sphere’s path wound through Via Carducci and Via Pellico, continued through Piazza De Amicis, and then along Via San Gabriele, heading toward the border crossing that shares its name. There, Slovenian hands took over, continuing the ritual procession toward Nova Gorica’s Piazza Kardelja, in front of the municipal building.
Upon its arrival, the Sfera Go!2025 was ceremoniously illuminated, a gesture akin to lighting an Olympic cauldron—except this was not a beacon of competition, but one of peace and shared culture. The event marked a powerful moment in the ongoing collaboration between the twin cities, reinforcing their commitment to a cross-border European identity as they prepare to take center stage in 2025.
