On February 10, 2025, a successful operation led to the recovery of a historic stone fountain and the removal of two garbage bins from a cliff-side along the coastal road connecting Trieste to Sistiana in Duino Aurisina.

The discovery occurred during a training exercise by the Speleo Alpino Fluviale (SAF) teams of the Trieste Fire Department near a natural cave along the roadway. The items had been lost for years after a road accident caused the stone fountain, dating back to 1931, to be uprooted.

Upon notifying the municipalities of Trieste and Duino Aurisina, the fire department coordinated an intervention to clean up the area and recover the historical artifact. With support from Friuli Venezia Giulia Strade, the operation required specialized personnel, including SAF teams, an autocrane, and a boat crew from the Nucleo Soccorso Subacqueo Acquatico (NSSA), ensuring safety on both land and sea.

The recovered items were handed over to the municipality of Duino Aurisina. Local mayors Igor Gabrovec of Duino Aurisina and Roberto Dipiazza of Trieste were present during the operation.
