A hands-on workshop focused on the pruning of cherry trees is set to take place on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. Participants will meet in front of Palatrieste for the event, which is organized by Urbi et Horti and Bioest.

The workshop will center on the proper pruning techniques for the cherry tree (Prunus avium), a fruit-bearing species in the Rosaceae family that is commonly cultivated on farms and in private gardens. Known for its ability to grow up to 30 meters in height, the cherry tree exhibits an upright growth habit, favoring vertical expansion.

Unlike many other fruit trees, cherry trees require minimal pruning. Experts advise against heavy cutting, as drastic interventions can weaken the tree and make it susceptible to bacterial and fungal infections, which may ultimately threaten its survival. Instead, the species benefits from light, regular pruning, performed annually to maintain health and productivity.

The workshop will be led by experienced farmer Milvio, who will guide participants through the practical aspects of cherry tree pruning. The session may also include pruning demonstrations on other fruit trees and shrubs.

Attendees are encouraged to bring gloves, pruning shears, and wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes.
