The Schiller Association of Trieste is set to host a preview of Schubertiade 2025, a concert series dedicated to the art of Lieder, with an evening that aims to revive the ambiance of a 19th-century Viennese musical salon. The event, scheduled for February 27 at 8:00 p.m. in the Ridotto Hall of the Teatro Lirico G. Verdi, will feature three Triestine musicians with international careers: soprano Laura Antonaz, pianist Edoardo Torbianelli, and hornist Marco Panella.

The concert program brings together compositions by well-known figures such as Franz Schubert and Franz Strauss, alongside works by lesser-performed composers including Conradin Kreutzer, Franz Lachner, Otto Nicolai, and Carl Gottlieb Reissiger. The inclusion of the horn alongside the traditional voice-piano pairing represents a departure from the standard Lieder format, offering a distinctive sound palette reminiscent of 19th-century Viennese salon performances.

Torbianelli, currently active between Paris and Basel, returns to Trieste for this occasion, while Panella, who has previously served as the principal horn of the RAI Orchestra, and Antonaz, a respected performer and teacher, will also take the stage. In addition to her performance, Antonaz is set to lead a Lieder masterclass in March, alongside pianist Cristina Santin, as part of the Schiller Association’s broader musical initiatives.

The event serves as an introduction to the Schubertiade 2025 series, which will formally launch in May. Tickets are available through the Teatro Verdi box office. The initiative is supported by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the Municipality of Trieste, and the Casali Foundation.
