A new photographic exhibition, Living as Memory, by renowned artist Rossano B. Maniscalchi, opened on Friday, February 28, at Magazzino 26. The show offers a retrospective of Maniscalchi’s work, featuring 104 pieces that span a range of genres, including portraits, fashion, art, and still life, showcasing his versatility and talent.
Maniscalchi, known internationally for his contributions to both film and photography, is celebrated for his distinctive style and ability to capture the essence of his subjects. His work has earned him collaborations with prestigious fashion brands and opportunities to photograph global celebrities.
The photographs on display, which have earned international recognition, reflect Maniscalchi’s extensive experience in fashion, advertising, and art. They illustrate his ability to engage deeply with his subjects, offering personal and profound insights.
The exhibition traces the evolution of Maniscalchi’s career, highlighting his personal growth and the technological shifts, particularly the rise of digital photography. This progression culminated in his growing interest in film by 2018.
Among the celebrity subjects featured in the exhibition are notable figures such as authors Paul Auster, Don DeLillo, Margaret Atwood, and Salman Rushdie, film director Michelangelo Antonioni, sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro, and scientists Rita Levi Montalcini, among many others. Each photograph was selected based on Maniscalchi’s strong personal and professional connection to the subjects.
The title Living as Memory was chosen by Michael March, the late writer and poet, who was president of the Prague Writers’ Festival. The exhibition is dedicated to him.
In addition to his photography, Maniscalchi has earned numerous awards for his work as a filmmaker, including recognition at the Cannes Film Festival and the Global Short Film Awards for his films The Key to Heaven, centered on jeweler Ara Ghazaryan, and Beyond, which won awards for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Fashion and Beauty Film.
The exhibition is free to attend and is open Thursday to Sunday, as well as on holidays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., until May 4, 2025.
