On Saturday, March 8, at 6 p.m., the LETS Museum in Trieste will host an event featuring Gabriella Ziani and Roberto Curci, two prominent figures in the study of Trieste’s literary history. The discussion will center on Bianco, Rosa e Verde, an anthology of Italian-language female writers from Trieste, spanning the mid-nineteenth century to the late twentieth century.
The anthology, edited by Ziani and Curci, is recognized as a key resource for understanding the contributions of female writers in Trieste, offering insights into their often-overlooked role in the city’s literary tradition. Bianco, Rosa e Verdepresents a series of portraits, shedding light on these authors’ work and their cultural impact.
The event, part of the cultural initiatives organized by the Municipality of Trieste in honor of International Women’s Day, will also recognize Ziani and Curci’s contributions to preserving and promoting this literary heritage. The authors will share their research process, including Curci’s work uncovering the identity of the young Trieste student who inspired James Joyce, and their joint efforts to reconstruct the library of female writers featured in the anthology.
Ziani and Curci’s collaboration on the book has also led to the donation of their personal collection of Trieste’s female writers’ works to the Hortis Library. A small exhibition highlighting these materials will be on display at the LETS Museum during the event.
Gabriella Ziani, a former journalist at Il Piccolo, and Roberto Curci, an art historian and former cultural editor at Il Piccolo, will be joined in conversation by Gabriella Norio of the Hortis Library, along with LETS Museum curators Riccardo Cepach and Cristina Fenu. The event is free to the public, with limited seating available.
