Notre Dame de Paris, one of the world’s most celebrated modern operas, is set to return to Italian theaters in 2026, marking the 25th anniversary of its debut in the country. The tour, launching in Milan on February 26, will visit 21 cities, including Trieste, culminating in Rome in December 2026.
First staged in Paris in 1998, the opera, based on Victor Hugo’s novel and featuring music by Riccardo Cocciante, has become a global sensation. The Italian adaptation, crafted by Pasquale Panella and brought to the country in 2002, has drawn over 4.5 million spectators in Italy alone. The show’s celebrated score includes hits like “Bella” and “Il Tempo delle Cattedrali.”
Cocciante, reflecting on the production’s enduring appeal, noted its universal themes of love, justice, and human fragility. “This show connects deeply with audiences,” he said. “Esmeralda and Quasimodo embody the struggles of outsiders, making this story timeless.”
The 2026 tour will include performances in cities such as Naples, Florence, Bari, Genoa, and Trieste, offering fans another chance to experience the spectacle. It follows a successful 20th-anniversary run in 2022 and comes as Paris’s iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral reopens after its devastating 2019 fire.
Tickets go on sale March 18 online and March 23 at authorized retailers.
