A record 4,025 high school students have signed up for presentations of first-level degree programs at the University of Trieste’s Spring Open Day on March 21, underscoring the institution’s growing appeal.
The event opened with remarks from Rector Roberto Di Lenarda and Orientation Delegate Lucio Torelli, followed by an overview of the university’s academic offerings led by the Orientation Office.
Long considered a crucial event for prospective students, Open Day plays a key role in the university’s rising profile. The expansion of its degree programs—more than 20 new courses introduced in recent years, including six taught in English—has helped make Trieste one of Italy’s fastest-growing universities in terms of enrollment, particularly among international students.
New student registrations have risen more than 30 percent since the 2019-2020 academic year, a growth rate six times higher than the national average for public universities.
This year, nearly 6,000 students enrolled at UniTS, helping the university climb from sixth to third place among institutions in the Triveneto region. The university’s total student body now exceeds 17,500 at the undergraduate and master’s levels, with nearly 2,000 enrolled in postgraduate programs, including a record 560 Ph.D. candidates.
International interest continues to fuel UniTS’s expansion: 40 percent of undergraduate and master’s students and 60 percent of doctoral candidates come from outside the region or abroad. The university expects to reach 20,000 students in the near future, cementing its status as a leading academic hub in northeastern Italy.
