The 12th edition of Maker Faire Trieste will take place on May 10 and 11 in Piazza Unità d’Italia, organizers announced Thursday. The event, which highlights innovation and technology, is jointly organized by the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and the Municipality of Trieste, with support from the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region. Entry will be free.
This year’s edition has been moved to the spring to better accommodate students, with a dedicated school program scheduled for May 9. The fair will feature demonstrations, experiments, and exhibits designed to engage both the general public and young people interested in science and technology.
Trieste Deputy Mayor Serena Tonel emphasized the event’s role in fostering scientific curiosity and career opportunities, particularly for young people. “Our goal is to promote scientific outreach through creativity and innovation,” she said. ICTP Director Atish Dabholkar highlighted Maker Faire’s accessibility, calling it “a festival of ingenuity” that helps connect the public with the future of science and technology.
This year’s fair will include two new side programs. The Science Picnic will feature a talk by Gabriella Greison, a science communicator who blends physics with pop culture. The FantaMaker program, developed with Cappella Underground, will explore the connections between science, cinema, and TV series, featuring astrophysicist Luca Perri and the editors of SerialMinds.
