Interview: FVG councilor for education and family affairs, Alessia Rosolen

The regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia has announced an expansion of its family support programs for 2025, increasing funding for education, childcare, and financial aid in response to rising living costs. The initiative, led by Alessia Rosolen, the regional councillor for education and family affairs, aims to bolster assistance for parents and young residents.

The region has increased its annual budget for family support from €25 million in 2018 to €96.2 million in 2025. Funding for education has nearly doubled since 2021, reaching €9 million this year.

Among the key initiatives is an expansion of the Family Card, a program offering benefits to families with children and an income threshold of €35,000. The number of active cards has risen by 85% since 2021, now reaching more than 44,500 families. A separate measure will provide subsidies to lower fees for early childhood services, with eligible families receiving up to €510 per month toward nursery costs. Applications for this program are open through May 31.

Other initiatives include financial aid for education-related expenses, with families eligible for up to €600 per child for school, cultural, and sports activities. The government has also expanded mortgage relief programs, providing a €20,000 grant for families with a third child, and introduced measures to assist young couples with loans as they establish independent households.

The education sector will see additional investment, with subsidies for private school tuition increasing and a psychological support program extended to vocational students. The Dote Scuola program, which offers direct financial assistance to families of secondary school students, has seen a significant increase in demand, doubling the number of applications in the past year.

Rosolen emphasized the government’s goal of ensuring equal educational opportunities and supporting families amid economic challenges. “We are committed to strengthening services for families at every stage, from early childhood to higher education,” she said during the announcement.

The new measures will be implemented throughout 2025, with applications for various programs available through online regional portals, apply at https://cartafamiglia.regione.fvg.it/
