The Regional Environmental Protection Agency of Friuli Venezia Giulia (Arpa FVG) inaugurated its new headquarters in Pordenone on Tuesday, marking a significant step in the agency’s modernization efforts.

The three-story facility, designed to meet stringent energy efficiency and seismic safety standards, features 20 offices with 42 workstations, a 50-seat conference room, and various support spaces. The €5.35 million project was launched in 2020 as part of a broader initiative to update and consolidate the agency’s infrastructure.

Regional Councillor for Environmental Protection Fabio Scoccimarro, Pordenone’s Councillor for the Environment Mattia Tirelli, and Arpa FVG Director General Anna Lutman attended the opening. Officials emphasized the building’s Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) classification, which maximizes the use of renewable energy, and its adherence to Italy’s Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM) for sustainable construction.

The new facility replaces Arpa FVG’s previous headquarters on Via delle Acque, which was deemed too costly to retrofit. Built on an 8,000-square-meter lot already owned by the agency, the new structure was completed in under two years, with construction beginning in July 2023.

The building’s seismic-resistant design has drawn interest from professionals and academics. Last year, Arpa FVG hosted industry experts and students from the University of Zagreb to observe the facility’s earthquake-resistant construction techniques.

Officials are still determining the future of the old headquarters, with potential plans for collaboration with the neighboring university consortium.
