Interview: City councilor for public property, Elisa Lodi
The Revoltella Museum – Gallery of Modern Art has completed a comprehensive series of renovations aimed at removing physical and cognitive barriers, city officials announced Friday during a press conference. The upgrades, designed to make the museum more accessible to all visitors, were presented by Elisa Lodi, Trieste’s Councilor for Public Property, in the presence of Mayor Roberto Dipiazza.
Also attending were Manuela Declich, president of the museum’s board, municipal councilor Marcelo Medau, project director architect Andrea Benedetti, and representatives from ROSSO Srl, the construction company in charge of the works.
Mayor Dipiazza praised the successful completion of the project, noting its alignment with the city’s cultural priorities. “It’s truly a pleasure to be here,” he said. “Every time I admire these works, I’m reminded of how extraordinary our artistic and museum heritage is. Congratulations to everyone involved—let’s keep moving forward.”
Trieste recently ranked first in the “Culture and Leisure” category of Il Sole 24 Ore’s 2024 Quality of Life survey, a point the mayor underscored in his remarks. The Revoltella Museum has also seen a steady rise in visitor numbers in recent years.
Councillor Lodi expressed particular satisfaction that the work was completed ahead of schedule. “The museum will soon be fully open to the public again, with a refreshed look and improved accessibility. It’s just a matter of days now, as we apply the final touches,” she said.
Further improvements are planned for the coming months, including the replacement of windows and additional upgrades. These next steps will be financed through regional funding and the city’s tourism tax revenue. Architect Benedetti will continue to oversee the work, in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism.
The renovation included the refurbishment of the museum’s entrance vestibule and ticketing area, part of a broader set of upgrades on the ground floor. More details of the interventions are expected to be released as the museum prepares to reopen fully to the public.
The Revoltella Museum, a cornerstone of Trieste’s cultural landscape, continues to evolve with a focus on inclusion and accessibility, reaffirming its role as a modern, welcoming space for art lovers of all abilities.
