Traffic Restrictions Announced for May 4 as Trieste Hosts the 2025 Spring Run

The City of Trieste has announced a series of temporary traffic restrictions to ensure the smooth and safe execution of the 29th annual Trieste Spring Run, which includes the popular 21K Half Marathon and the Spring Family Run, scheduled for Sunday, May 4, 2025.

According to ordinance no. 396-25, the following measures will be in effect:

Full Road Closures (6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.)

  • The road connecting the village of Santa Croce to the Strada Costiera.
  • Viale Miramare, between the Miramare junction and the entrance to Miramare Park, and from the Marinella restaurant (marking the beginning of the Trieste urban area) to the intersection with Salita alla Madonna di Gretta. A single uphill lane will remain accessible to emergency vehicles in the latter section.
  • Largo Città di Santos, between the Porto Vecchio / Porto Vivo monumental gate and the connector road leading to Piazza L. A. Duca degli Abruzzi.

Additional Closures for Motor Vehicles and Bicycles (6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.)

  • The internal roads of the Porto Vecchio / Porto Vivo area, from the intersection with the roundabout on Viale Miramare to the monumental gate facing Largo Città di Santos.
  • The connector road between Largo Città di Santos and Piazza L. A. Duca degli Abruzzi.

Extended Closures (6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or until event-related needs are resolved)

  • Trieste’s waterfront (mare side): Corso CavourPiazza L. A. Duca degli AbruzziRiva Tre NovembreRiva Caduti per l’Italianità, and Riva del Mandracchio, from the intersection with Via Milano to Via di Mercato Vecchio.
  • Trieste’s waterfront (monte side): closures will also affect Riva del Mandracchio and Riva Caduti per l’Italianità, though full details were not included in the preliminary ordinance notice.

The city advises residents and visitors to plan accordingly and use alternate routes where possible. Public transportation services and emergency response vehicles will be granted access as needed.

The Trieste Spring Run is a key event on the city’s sports calendar, drawing participants and spectators from across the region and beyond.
