The Videoclip Italia Awards have announced Tuta Gold, directed by Attilio Cusani for singer-songwriter Mahmood, as the winner of the 2025 Billboard Italia Award. The official presentation will take place on Friday, May 16, during the fourth edition of the Videoclip Italia Awards — and for the first time, the ceremony will be held in Milan.
The video, set against the striking brutalist backdrop of the Rozzol Melara housing complex in Trieste, has garnered both critical and popular acclaim. According to Billboard Italia’s editor-in-chief Federico Durante, the video is “refined and deeply urban,” with choreography on par with top-tier American productions and standout editing choices. Durante also noted Mahmood’s signature gesture — sticking out his tongue — as one of the most iconic visual moments of 2024. Tuta Gold was the most viewed Italian music video of the year.
Director Attilio Cusani, who has collaborated with Mahmood since the breakout hit Soldi in 2019, described the award as deeply moving. “This video came from a very specific narrative urgency,” he said. “I wanted to portray the emotional intelligence and ethical choices of teenagers from the suburbs — not through clichés, but by highlighting their empathy and care.”
The video’s storyline includes a group of teens rescuing cows from a slaughterhouse — a scene Cusani called the “perfect image” to challenge stereotypes. Production in Trieste was supported by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Film Commission and PromoTurismoFVG.
The Videoclip Italia Awards celebrate innovation in music video production across Italy and continue to grow in national visibility with this year’s Milan debut.
