The regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia has approved a significant increase in funding for higher education and student support services for the 2024–2027 period. The updated financial plan was presented on Wednesday by Alessia Rosolen, the Regional Councillor for Education and Universities, during a session of the Regional Council’s Sixth Commission.
According to Rosolen, the new three-year plan allocates €31.85 million for general operating expenses related to university services, €3.205 million for support of satellite university campuses, and €27.574 million for the Regional Supplementary Fund for student scholarships.
“While the right to education is guaranteed at the national level,” Rosolen stated, “regional investment is essential to achieving full coverage for eligible students.” She noted that the number of scholarship-eligible students has increased from 5,388 in the 2022/2023 academic year to 6,672 for 2024/2025. “This remains a key political choice and a constant priority of the regional administration, despite the recent sharp rise in costs,” she added.
The region has also invested in university infrastructure, committing a total of €53.5 million, along with an additional €11 million earmarked for the redevelopment of the Valle di Pordenone Administrative Center.
Among the most notable changes included in the updated guidelines are adjustments to the eligibility thresholds for financial aid. The ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator) limit has been raised from €27,726.79 to €27,948.60, while the ISPE (Indicator of the Economic Situation for Benefits) has increased from €60,275.66 to €60,757.87, in line with national ministerial recommendations.
The amounts awarded through scholarships have also been revised. For off-site and independent students, the maximum grant has risen to €7,072.10; for commuters, it has been set at €4,132.85; and for students living at home, €2,850.26.
Further discussion of the implementation guidelines is expected to continue in the coming months as the regional government finalizes its framework for university-level student support through 2027.
