Massimiliano Fedriga, governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia region, has defused a political crisis within his governing coalition without making changes to his cabinet.
The crisis erupted earlier this week when a majority of regional ministers offered to resign, following rising tensions within the center-right alliance over the management of healthcare and internal power dynamics. The dispute was intensified by criticism from national figures in the Brothers of Italy party, a key coalition partner.
Fedriga, a senior member of the League, met with coalition leaders on Friday and announced afterward that the majority remains intact and united. “We have resolved the misunderstandings,” he said, adding that he would seek a vote of confidence in the regional council in the coming days.
The decision to forgo a reshuffle is seen as a move to maintain stability in the administration, which was re-elected in 2023 with a strong majority. Coalition leaders have asked Fedriga to act as a “guarantor” of unity moving forward.
The vote of confidence is expected to reinforce his leadership and settle tensions—at least for now.
