This week our region’s cultural activity has been frozen as the state of emergency has been announced in Friuli Venezia Giulia, stopping all didactic activities and forcing all entertainment venues to cancel their events. This means all museums, libraries, cinemas and cultural events were forced to go on hiatus. We couldn’t help but wonder if it was as bad as it sounded, so we went downtown Trieste for a capo and a look around.

The smell of coffee was just as inebriating as usual and although cafés were just a tiny bit emptier this afternoon than they usually are, there were still groups of people enjoying their capo in the sun.

Not only locals, but some groups of tourists were wandering the emptied out streets of Trieste. After reading about the virus for days on end, actually being downtown Trieste made us feel a lot calmer. Could it be that we are making too big a deal out of this?

After making our way down to Piazza Unità and seeing kids play in the sun, we felt at peace. It just seemed like a regular Trieste afternoon and it made us feel good.
The article about cultural activities in the city during the virus alert is reassuring and it gives hopes for a normal happy life in Trieste.
