With the new governmental decree out on 19 October, all mayors of Italian cities got the power to close public areas after 9 pm.
Mayors can also decide on the opening times of restaurants and the size of groups allowed in.
Trieste’s mayor Roberto Dipiazza said in his recent interview to regional Rai News there will be no curfew “if the rules are respected”.
Mayor Dipiazza addressed the younger population via his Facebook profile, pleading to avoid gatherings and wear masks at all times when outside. He added that everyone should do this “for the common good” and if Triestini don’t abide by the rules, “drastic measures will be taken”.
Mayor Dipiazza urged Trieste citizens to be responsible, be kind, be respectful, be safe and be well.
