Hundreds of people took to the streets to demonstrate over the so-called “mini lockdown” measures.
Trieste witnessed hundreds in Piazza Unità protesting against the closure of gyms, swimming pools and early closure of bars and restaurants last night, 26 October.
A crowd gathered in Piazza Unità around 7 pm to protest over the restrictions imposed by Italy’s “health dictatorship” and the curfew in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.

Both Mayor Roberto Dipiazza and FVG’s president Massimiliano Fedriga were present in the piazza.
“All of the Italian regions were against the early closures of bars and restaurants, as well as gyms and pools. Regions’ opinions were not heard and the new decree was signed during the night, without letting us know” said Fedriga. “We all want to stop the pandemic, but our biggest worry is that these measures will lead to many permanent closures of businesses, without having any real effect on the pandemic.”
Fedriga finished his speech by saying that “the regions must unite and stand against the unfair regulations imposed by the government.”
Despite mounting pressure and fears that the pandemic is spiralling out of control, Conte is so far resisting implementing a second national lockdown, saying that it would wreck the country’s already fragile economy.
