As only Triestini know, when the morning sky is cloudless and bora has long been gone, the afternoon will be spent chasing sun rays in Barcola (or Pedocin).
This year has been all kinds of odd, so we were not surprised to see most Triestini make an exodus to Barcola early Wednesday afternoon on 12 October.
Traffic jams between Stazione Centrale and Costiera could only mean one thing: Barcola is happening.
But can you blame them? Not only has bora taken a few days off, the temperature was in mid 20’s on Wednesday afternoon making you feel almost guilty if you did’t go “al bagno“.

Armed with sunscreen and folding chairs, hordes of still tanned locals were making their way to Pineta and beyond. All Barcola kiosks were reopened for the Trieste dwellers to take a break from blistering sun in the shade of a green gazebo.

“Un nero!”, “un capo!”, “un capo in b!” called out sun tired Triestini.
Sunday promises to be just as glorious with a high of 22 C. We guess it’s time to go al bagno, again.
