As Charles Dickens would say – it was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Clearly, the author was talking about the year that we have just endured and still carrying the scars of. But not everyone went through hell in back – some of us found true love this pandemic season.

A true love story flourished on Trieste balconies, reports Trieste’s local newspaper il Piccolo. The happy couple met during complete lockdown last year, both sitting on their respective terraces. Elena, 42 who worked as a nurse at Cattinara hospital during the toughest pandemic months and Christian, 50, an athlete trying to survive smart working, fell madly in love.

Both Triestini and single for a long time, Elena and Christian have been neighbors for years without ever crossing paths. Although living in separate buildings, their balconies were just one meter apart. Little did they know, that the horror of pandemic would change their lives for the better.

It all started with a shy “hello” and then a few jokes here and there, and about a month into their balcony friendship they exchanged numbers.

When Christian and Elena finally met in person at a local bar down their street, after months of conversing, they instantly knew it was love. They moved in two weeks later and in August Christian asked Elena to marry him. She said yes.

“It does feel like a fairytale”, Elena told Il Piccolo “I was leading a normal life between the shifts at the hospital and outings with friends, never meeting the right person. I would’ve never expected to meet him while standing on my balcony.”

In June, 2021 Elena and Andrea will become husband and wife.
