A new Netflix Italian original series titled “Robbing Mussolini,” has begun shooting in Trieste. A historical drama set in 1940s, follows Mussolini contending with the consequences of presumed betrayals.

Palazzo Carciotti was transformed into Teatro Cabiria (see the cover photo) especially for the shooting, named after the famous silent film of 1914 directed by Gabriele D’Annunzio. Beautiful Ponterosso was also one of the shooting spots for the movie.

Netflix in a statement announced that rising Italian talent Matilda De Angelis and the famous Pietro Castellitto along with Isabella Ferrari are playing the leads in this fiction.

Though it originated before she came on board, “Robbing Mussolini” will be among the first Netflix shows brought to set by Eleonora Andreatta, Netflix’s VP of Italian Original series, who in June left state broadcaster RAI, where she was head of drama, to join the streaming giant.

Netflix is planning to drop “Robbing Mussolini,” which will shoot in Rome, Trieste, Ruda (Udine) and Tarvisio, at the end of 2021.
